What a dental checkup is actually for

It's easy to think of a checkup as just a cleaning. It's really a chance to catch the small stuff before it turns into the big stuff.

Plenty of people put off a checkup because nothing hurts. That's understandable — but it's also a little backwards. The most useful visits are usually the ones where nothing is wrong yet.

Why regular visits help

A lot can be spotted early, long before you'd feel it. Catching something small often means a simpler fix later, and a cleaning clears the buildup that even good brushing leaves behind.

It's also a good time to ask

If something's been bugging you — a sensitive spot, a question about your routine, whether you're flossing the right way — a checkup is the moment to bring it up. There's no such thing as a question that's too basic.
